The most common payment fraud involves no hacking at all. An email arrives from a supplier asking to update their bank details, someone edits the vendor record, and the next payment run sends the money to a new account.
Payee checks stop this where it costs least to stop it, before anyone approves the run.
Compare Every Payee With the Vendor Master
When a run is imported, check each payee’s bank details against the vendor master. A match passes quietly, and a mismatch holds that payment with both versions shown side by side.
Treat Recent Changes as New Payees
A bank detail changed in the last 30 days deserves the same care as a brand new supplier. Route it to a second approver, and confirm the change with the supplier on a number you already hold.
Watch for Duplicates and Odd Amounts
The same invoice paid twice and an amount far outside a supplier’s usual range are both worth a look before release. Flag them in the run, so the approver sees them in context.
Ampersand runs these checks on every import, and the results travel with the payment into the audit trail.
